Does a Quad core computer run 4 times faster, or does it work on 4 different tasks at the same time?
I want a new computer, but I don't want to spend the extra for a quad core chip unless all four cores are able to work on one program at the same time.
So are you saying that a quad core will run 4 different programs as fast as 4 separate computers with single cores could run them, but it won't run one program any faster unless that one program is designed for multiple cores?
I doesn't work 4 times faster, but any program designed to take advantage of quad core, will run faster, by allowing the processor to work on 4 tasks the program is trying to accomplish, at the same time.
Most programs, today, only take advantage of dual core, but that's changing. More programs will keep coming out, capable of fully utilizing 4 cores.
So, yes, it depends on the program, but the quad core is capable of putting all it's efforts into one program.
