How can I remove electroplated copper from steel hinges?
The 100-year old hinges in my house were covered in paint. Underneath, they were electroplated with copper, but also had a really ugly black diagonal stripe across the middle (I suppose it was considered decorative). I'm not sure what the stripe is, but it isn't paint. I rubbed off the copper with a dremel equipped with a rubber bit, but the metal underneath, which I think might be steel, shows scuffs from the dremel. Any idea how to remove the scuffs? Alternatively, any idea how to remove just the black stripe but leave the copper intact?
im not sure of the cost but I think you can actually just get the re-plated locally i would look online and find a company near you for a small order its probably not that expensive and they will look brand new
