What's a good deal on a laptop or a netbook with webcam/mic, hdmi, usb/cdr/dvdr for less than $500 w/warranty?
My laptop is slowly dying and needs to be replace. I am open to netbooks but I'm not sure if I can get used to such a small screen. The basic things I want is listed above. I don't play videogames on here so I don't need super great graphics but I like to live stream netflix movies, would like to skype with relatives and burn dvds or cds as needed. What's the best deal out there that will have a solid warranty? Btw i'm in texas not some international place so I do see walmart, dell, best buy, office max carrying ads for laptops but I'm having a hard time finding one with everything for my price point.
No, you aren't open to netbooks. They don't have DVD drives. I don't think any have hdmi, either, but i could be wrong on that one.
Can't steer you to a specific laptop, or the best deal, but can suggest brands. Avoid HP/Compaq, Gateway, and Acer. They have had the worst record
for reliability for the last 2+ years. Asus, Toshiba, and Sony Vaio
have been the best. See below:

Other folks will post of their good experiences with one or two
laptops of a particular brand. But a study of 30,000 laptops is
far more telling.
But of course the fanboys of particular brands rated badly will give
my answer a thumbs down.
The PriceGrabber survey shows the netbook market continues to grow at a rate faster than the regular notebook market
The PriceGrabber survey shows the netbook market continues to grow at a rate faster than the regular notebook market, and that they are being used as complementary devices to customer main computers, not as replacements. The netbook market will likely stay where it is in the near future because of the introduction of ltra Thin ibm thinkpad t21 battery, which have more or less capped netbooks as 10.1-inch devices with limited capabilities. Regardless, netbooks continue to be an ideal choice for consumers who want an affordable, "on-the-go" companion.
Lenovo claims you should be able to get about 7 hours from the 6 cell, 48Whr ThinkPad Z60T battery. In my tests, I came pretty close, getting about 6:45 of run time while doing some light web browsing and document editing over WiFi.
According to Skooba spokesperson Lorri Diggory, "It's not at all unusual to travel with a laptop, phone, music/media device, digital camera or compact video camera, and more. That means bringing along at least a half-dozen cords, adapters, media cards, extra batteries, and other 'support gear.' The Cable Stable offers a versatile and efficient alternative to a snake pit in the bottom of a laptop bag, FPCBP130,or items stuffed haphazardly into random pockets or pouches." Diggory says that the demand for this compact and protective organizer has greatly increased with airline baggage constraints, as a traveler can now easily and safely store all of these accessories in one carrier and pack it neatly in a suitcase.
One of the core values of the company is that it is not necessary for someone to spend a large amount of money on a computer just to use the internet and do basic tasks. With this in mind, Val-U-Computers offer basic laptops for as low as . Few of their products are priced at over . Many have been discounted to a fraction of their original cost because they have been refurbished and can no longer be offered at the standard factory price. Laptops are generally received within five days, and the company offers a 14 day money back guarantee.
The new workstation is highly customizable, but has, as major advantages for frequent travelers, the Gobi 2.0 wireless chip, which supports multiple carriers, a 3-megapixel webcam and a long-lasting Inspiron 6000 battery life. Specifically, the company claims that its Precision M4500 can last for up to seven hours and 40 minutes with the nine-cell battery, and even longer if the half-inch-thick 12-cell battery is selected.
Alex, however, was initially revealed as far back as October 2009, but the product has not even become available for order, having been delayed on repeated occasion. Last time it was postponed, it was supposed to come out during the first week of March. That week has already passed, but Spring Design seems to have again delayed the launch. Now, the targeted time frame is early spring.
These specs are already noteworthy for an ultra-thin PC and they are complemented by matching connectivity and I/O options. More specifically, the X-Slim X360 has RJ-45 LAN, 802.11 b/g/draft n WiFi, Bluetooth V2.1+EDR, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, HDMI out, two USB ports, two speakers and even mic-in and headphone-out jacks.
According to PC Inpact, Intel is working on a dual-core Atom N central processor, meant to enable better multitasking and an overall better netbook performance. There is already a netbook PC based on a dual-core Atom, namely the ASUS(Eee PC 900 battery) Eee PC 1201N, but this model uses the desktop Atom D510 chip, which draws more power and generates more heat than the Atom N330, N470 or the more widespread N450. If the company is genuinely developing an N dual-core, likely dubbed Atom N500, netbooks will have access to a higher performance without a noticeable impact on battery life.
Like major vendors cer, toshiba(pa3285u-1brs Laptop battery), HP, and Lenovo hat have rolled out netbooks the past couple of years, Intel has maintained its focus on the netbook space. At the end of last year, the chipmaker released a new Atom processor. Though less powerful than the original Atom, the Atom N450 is smaller and more energy efficient draws just 5.5 watts of power (by comparison, a typical Core i5 has a max TDP of 35 watts).
