How can I test electronics to determine working condition?
Is there a way to see if a main board of something is working, or a harddrive, lcd screen, ect. to see if it works with out putting it completely together?
Each one is different and requires a complicated, and different, set of test equipment.
The only way you or I can test them is functionally, by connecting them together with other known good components and seeing if they run.
Fires pose a great danger to people when they occur at night and in areas where individuals sleep. They can come up suddenly and a person may sleep right through his or her chance to escape and be trapped in a fiery room the second he or she wakes up. To combat the dangers of fires, we have invented a number of small appliances that do an excellent job, when kept in functioning condition, at waking people from their rest and removing them from the path of the fire.
Smoke detectors, smoke alarms, heat detectors, and heat alarms all do principally the same thing. They are all designed to alert people that there is some heat or smoke source in the area that is posing a threat to the lives within. The trigger of the alarm is different between a smoke detector and a heat detector but the end result and purpose are the same.
The most important thing to remember in reliance on a smoke detector or similar device is that it must have a working power source. These safety devices do very little to help a person if they cannot work because the batteries or dead or there is no power getting to it. As such, it is imperative that heat-detecting safety appliances have their batteries and power checked at least once a year. In 85% of the fires that occur in which the smoke alarm did not activate but was actually present, the problem or reason for the lack of activation was dead or missing batteries or power source.
If the batteries or power source in any smoke or heat alarm are checked and found to be in working condition, then there is a rate of 12 deaths per every 1000 home fires. Without the working or present alarm, the rate is 17 deaths per 1000 fires. The difference is just under 50% of the working/present alarm deaths which is significant.
Even with an alarm, it is still possible that the occupants of a room will die from a fire. The most common reasons for this occurrence are planned deaths like suicides and homicides (13%), clothing fires (21%), physical challenges in the victim (20%), and the alarm was not in the area of origin of the fire (26%). Because roughly a quarter of all deaths occur when the alarm is not in the area of the home where the fire originates, it is extremely important to have multiple detectors in a home.
